Why Use Compost?

Gardening Tips, Soil | February 17, 2024

Using compost reintroduces the essential minerals and nutrients, giving your plants the best environment to grow! There are many benefits of using compost, check out some of our top reasons:

Increases Plant Growth

Compost provides valuable organic matter and nutrients to your plants to help them grow healthy and strong. Adding compost to new plantings can help plants adapt more easily to their new home and it encourages a flush of fresh growth too. Our Organic Garden Boost Compost will give your garden the boost it needs before spring!

Improves Soil Health

Compost can be mixed into established flower or vegetable gardens in spring to replenish any nutrients that your plants used up during the previous season. To use compost as a soil amendment, spread about 2 to 3 inches of compost across your garden beds and then mix it into the top 6 inches of the soil with a shovel or hand tiller.

Prevents Soil Erosion

Adding a layer of compost can protect your soil from eroding due to watering and weather. Compost prevents soil erosion by binding soil together, increasing infiltration, and slowing the surface flow of water.

Conserves Water

Not only does compost provide nutrients, but it will increase your soil’s ability to hold moisture to reduce watering. Check out our Organic Garden Boost Compost and Mushroom Compost to help save water this spring.
